Farmers’ History Project

Ten artists will interview 20 farmers active with the Espanola Market and produce art work (banners) that will be exhibited at the Bond House September 4 through October 31. There’s an opening reception September 13th. Gallery hours are 12- 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. 

Artists include Bobbe Besold, Carmen Campos, Debra Fritts, Sabra Moore, Norma Navarro, Beata Tsosie-Peña & Luis Peña, Iren Schio, Frank Shelton, Gabriela Silva and others. We are compiling a list of current farmers to interview; the 2003 banners include the farm stories of Don Bustos, Rudy & Bernie Cordova, Salvador Corona Chavez, Marie B. Coriz, Evelyn Fernandez, Agnes Jaramillo, Gene & Rosina Lopez, Susie & Lawrence Lucero, Eppie Martinez, Eufelia Martinez, Floraida & Tranquilino Martinez, Pat & Juanita Montoya, Matt Romero, Mary Trujillo & Elias Gomez, Ralph Trujillo, Euralia Vigil. The market basics

The Española Farmers Market and Cultural Center is at 1005 North Railroad Avenue in Española, New Mexico. When? Every Monday, opening at ten in the morning until five in the afternoon through October 27th. Friday markets through September 19th, 2-7 p.m. Where? Dexter Trujillo and 65 students are participating in the summer “Cooking Up Traditions” July 7, 21, August 4, 18, September 1, 15, 20, October 13,27. Highlights: fresh produce and fine people, a free children’s book exchange, market aprons, market poetry books and market postcards, as well as visits to the wildflower and community garden.
